Because even dolls need drawers!

To go with the sundress, I made little drawers. I had a little trouble figuring out what to do for the waistband. The pattern called for an elastic that fit around the spirit’s waist, but I couldn’t find one the right size. Ultimately, I made them drawstring pants. That worked out very well.

The pattern worked up very quickly. I was able to finish it all in one day. The best part was the lace at the edging! It came out so adorable! The person who created these dolls and the patterns to go with them is a genius! I am looking forward to making all the great little outfits to give to my sister for Christmas.

Dolly Sundress

I finished the first outfit for my little spirit. It’s a sundress that I made in variegated cotton thread. It was an old pattern that I’ve made a couple times before. This time, I made a couple alterations.

I joined the back of the gown partway down. I think, when I do it again for Heidi’s spirit, I will join it lower than I did for Chloe. It was a little tough to get it onto the doll. I also switched to half-double crochet for the skirt of the dress. That made it fall a little lower on my spirit than it did on the Cindy doll.

Christmas is coming!

Heidi and I were discussing just what we should do for Christmas for each other. I realize… yeah, July is pretty early to think about such things. However, we both know well how the holiday season can sneak up on you. Anyway, my first thought was that we could find inexpensive ball-joint dolls to buy for each other. Then, I found an absolutely adorable pattern on Ravelry! It was the cuteness of the ball-joint dolls with the design-ability and the fun of making clothes for them – at an affordable price.

Well, I made one little spirit, but Heidi has yet to make her own. I’m sure she will, soon enough. Once she does, we can start making outfits for them. I figure that we’ll each make something simple for our little spirits and then we can begin making things for the other ones little spirits.

wait

Madeline stood at the edge of the water, staring out at the water. She was shaking. She startled at every sound, expecting the person who had attacked her to return. Jeffrey was coming for her. He’d said he would and she believed him. She would stay there until he came, no matter how long it took.

She saw something on the waves. As it came closer, she could make out that it was a boat. Someone was rowing towards the shore. She reached out with her mind and touched the person there. “Jeffrey,” she breathed, in relief. “Please, hurry.”

laugh

Madeline watched, hardly daring to breathe. She saw the impression of boots land just inches away. Then, they continued on, deeper into the trees. Soon, she couldn’t hear the crashing of the feet anymore. She lay there, panting softly and trying to get her racing heart to slow down to a normal pace.

Finally, when she was sure it was safe, she crawled out into the open once more. She spun and ran towards the clearing. Tears filled her eyes, but the sound that escaped was not a sob. No, she’d escaped. Soon – very soon – she would be free.

chase

He cursed when her fist caught him in the lip. He fell back and then, as she ran from him, he glared after her. Did she truly think she could escape? Growling, he ran after her once more. She ran towards the thickest part of the forest and he followed after her.

The branches stung his face, opening little cuts, as he forced his way through them. He didn’t care. He would have her. She would be his! He leapt over a break in the ground and continued on through the trees without pausing. Where could she have gone?

hide

Madeline managed, somehow, to pull away from him. She spun around and swung at the space where he must have been. Her fist connected with something, but she didn’t wait to see what. She spun away and ran down the slope a second time.

This time, she didn’t try to run for the clearing. She ran, instead, for the thickest part of the forest. She crashed through the trees and then tripped and fell. She could hear him, coming after her. She rolled back, hiding herself under the overhang over which she’d fallen. Heart pounding, she waited in silence.

catch

Madeline screamed as arms closed around her shoulders. A hand covered her mouth and then she was being dragged back towards the trees. She squirmed and struggled, but it did no good. Her attacker was strong – strong, even, than her.

Soon, she was back amongst the trees. Still, she fought to break free – to get away. She lost her shoes as he dragged her up the hill towards the house she had so recently escaped from. Tears were streaming down her cheeks, but she didn’t care. She hadn’t given up. She reached out and took hold of a branch.

smile

He watched the girl standing in the field, hugging her arm to her chest. He stood still as she searched for him. Her unseeing gaze swept past him. Her gown was torn. She was injured now and too tired to run any further.

He took a step towards her as she turned away from him. He could hear her trying to quiet her breathing and listen. By the time she did that, he knew, it would be too late. He moved closer to her until he was so close that he could hear her soft, even breaths. He smiled.

spin

Madeline nearly bit her tongue with the force of the second tumble. She couldn’t catch herself this time, not with her injured arm. This time, she didn’t try to stand up. She rolled over and scrambled back, her eyes wide. She saw… nothing?

Panting softly, Madeline stood. She turned slowly in a complete circle there was no sign of the thing that had chased her through the trees and into the field. Was it gone? How was that possible. She suppressed a shiver and closed her eyes, trying to calm down. She needed to take stock of her situation.
