“The light from that star,” Loki said, staring up at the sky, “left it before any of us were even around.”

Uncle frowned. “Really?”

Loki nodded. “My teacher said so, in school today,” he explained. “She also said it might be exploding at this very moment and we’d never know it until long after the light had faded.” His brows furrowed. “Looking at the stars is like peering into the past.”

“Does that mean, you could take a picture today and by tomorrow it would already be old?”

Chuckling, Loki shrugged. “Maybe,” he said. “In a twisted sort of way.”
