Silas stared down at the book in his hands for a moment. Then he looked up at his former captain. “You really don’t remember doing the things described here?” he said, frowning.

Runecaster shrugged and shook his head. “My life before Sophie is a blur,” he admitted. He smiled and his eyes got a somewhat vacant look to them, as if he were looking off at the distant horizon. “She brought light and happiness into my life. Before her, nothing I did really mattered.”

Nodding, Silas looked down at the book once more. It was a journal, but he noticed now that it held bare facts. It described battles – what people did and how Runecaster reacted, but not how he felt. “I guess that makes sense,” he said, his voice soft, “in a… strange way.”
